Winner of the Finnish critics’ prize 2021 for the Best Newcomer in the Arts, Emilia Hoving has emerged as one of most exciting young Finnish conductors of today, and for this concert with BBC National Orchestra of Wales she will conduct two works by her fellow countryman Sibelius. The final concert of this year’s Spring Festival opens, appropriately, with his tone poem Spring Song for Orchestra, and closes with one of his most popular and romantic works, Sibelius’s Symphony No.1.
In between these Nordic masterworks, Tobias Feldmann, one of the most distinguished musical personalities of his generation, will perform Beethoven’s monumental Violin Concerto, his only major work for solo violin and orchestra, and the concerto for which Tobias is internationally renowned.
