Please note there is a change of soloist since going to print with our Festival Guide.

We’re delighted to welcome the Estonian Symphony Orchestra to the Festival. They open tonight’s concert with the hypnotic Benjamin Britten Cantus in Memoriam, written by their fellow countryman Arvo Pärt in 1977.

Barry Douglas has established a major international career since winning the Gold Medal at the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, Moscow. Barry will be performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 1, which while not as well-known as the No. 2, is one of the great works for piano and orchestra.

The second half will feature Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, From the New World, giving a chance to experience The Estonian Symphony Orchestra at their finest, all under the baton of their Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Olari Elts.

Barry Douglas will also be holding a public masterclass on the morning of the concert.
